Winchelsea Ward is 980 square kilometres of country that has been sustainably managed and cared for by Eastern Marr and Wadawurrung peoples over tens of thousands of years.

Our challenge today is to integrate and fuse with practices from one of few, if not the only, civilisations that have been truly sustainable - one that had no armies, never set out to conquer the world, and which we are just starting to learn about (outside of Aboriginal groups). There is much our modern society can take heed of from indigenous cultures as we face a future with a climate changed by what 7 billion people do across our planet.

In that light, I pay respect to untold generations of past Aboriginal-heritage elders and to present and emerging elders as they, and hopefully we all, map out a path to a reconciled future.
